Interesting cab ride into my Buenos Aires co-working space this morning. Cab driver started talking about Obama (he's currently in town) and then said, "I like the way his wife thinks." I asked him why. He said: "Because she knows her place is to be lower in society than men. When women start wanting more, that's when marital conflict happens. I very much like that she knows her place." (Conversation complete with great gestures pantomiming his preferred locations of women and men in society.)
Bro, you picked the wrong example to try to convince this woman (going into work on a holiday, mind you) about the "proper" place of women in society.
Because Michelle Obama is a badass, and she knows damn well that her "place" is to be said badass. Michelle Obama was originally introduced to her now-husband because SHE was assigned to be HIS personal mentor at law firm Sidley Austin. And there was that whole graduating from Harvard and Princeton thing, too. Totally NBD tho.
Because as Chasity Malatesta once told me, "If I was in a back alley fight and had the option of being protected by Barack Obama or Michelle Obama... you know I'd pick Michelle. I'd definitely want Michelle." (PS: Miss you, Chas.)
